Business measures

Eligible Measures

Commercial customers can receive direct incentives to cover a portion of the cost to replace aging, inefficient equipment and systems with premium energy-efficient technologies as well as to install high efficiency equipment during new construction or end of life equipment replacement. Click here for a list of qualifying rates.

Prescriptive Measures

Any new or existing Georgia Power Commercial customers falling in these rate categories can take advantage of our Prescriptive Measure incentives. These are pre-defined, common energy efficiency measures [or technologies] that have pre-determined incentives and do not require complex engineering analysis. Custom Lighting Measures

Commercial customers can apply for Custom incentives for projects that result in energy savings in the facility's lighting systems, through the installation of high efficiency lighting equipment. The initial program participation criteria is:

Existing Building Custom Lighting: (Incentive is 20 cents per watt reduced for the following measures)

Measure 1: Fluorescent Lighting fixtures. Fixture must be listed on Consortium for Energy Efficiency website. This site covers only 4' T8 lamps and ballasts. 17w, 2' T8 lamps must have a minimum efficacy of 75 mean lumens/watt. 32w, U-bend T8 lamps must have a minimum efficacy of 79 mean lumens/watt. T5 lamps are also eligible under this measure.

Measure 2: High Bay Lighting. All high bay lighting must be pulse start HID technology or high efficient fluorescent.

Measure 3: Other lighting. This consists of lighting fixtures not included in Measure 1 or Measure 2. Common to this category is LED lighting, which must meet ENERGY STAR standards, a list of which is provided here. Other lighting sources and fixtures may qualify but will need to be pre-approved.

Other Existing Building Custom Lighting Requirements:

  • Fixture wattage must be reduced by a minimum of 10% to qualify.
  • All Custom Lighting retrofits must operate a minimum of 1,000 hours per year.
  • All lighting measures (Custom & Prescriptive combined) are capped at $10,000.
  • Recommend pre-approval for any application with an incentive over $1,000 and/or any application that utilizes Lighting Measure 3.
  • Custom lighting retrofit incentives are available to help offset the cost of new fixtures. Incentives are not available for "De-lamping ". De-lamping is defined as 1) removal of lamps from an existing fixture without replacing the ballast and installing higher efficiency lamps. 2) Removal of fixtures, without replacing with a like number of fixtures. In this case, incentives will be paid on the difference between existing fixtures and new fixtures on a one for one basis.

New Construction Custom Lighting:

30% less than ASHRAE 90.1 - 2007

Commercial facilities meeting the above program criteria may be eligible for federal or state tax incentives. In addition to tax incentives or credits available, the Custom Incentive program will provide the following incentives to participating facilities:

Facility Type Incentive Maximum per facility
All Commercial Customers facility $0.05/kWh $10,000

Incentives will consist of a one-time payment based on the first year energy savings. Savings baselines will be based on current state and local code requirements or current industry practices for replacement and new construction measures. Georgia Power will reserve the right to exercise discretion and adjust baselines for retrofit projects affecting measures significantly before the end of their useful life or for measures where codes and/or current industry practices are not applicable.

Program Limits
Lighting incentives are limited to a total of $10,000 for customers. Additional incentives, beyond the lighting limits, are available for all other Prescriptive track measures.
